The smile pockets a rattling controversy.

Kim smiled radiantly everyday. She always stopped to smell every flower and watch with direction the birds were flying. It brought joy to her heart to see children enjoying time with their parents in the yard. At work she was your perfect employee, consistently early, coffee and danish in hand, assignments handed in on time. Her heart was truly pure and it showed as she would stop her hectic day to help Mr. Morgan, an elderly man, hunched over from Scoliosis reach the mail in the back of his mailbox. Life was perfect for her and all of her friends envied her. They always said it as they complained to her about their lives. Kim always assured them that they were wrong and that she just did the best she could with that cards that were handed to her. She would say “Life is a playground, it’s up to us to run around laughing and playing in it.” Every person she came in contact with either hated her positive nature or loved it. One evening on her walk home from the Barnes & Nobles, daydreaming about the story still fresh in her mind, she crossed the street accidentally stepping on the dress of the woman in front of her. The woman was tall, worse heels, and had perfectly blonde hair, to anyone she would be considered a runway model. As Kim’s foot stopped the woman in her tracks the woman turned in blind fury and belted out “You stupid bitch! Watch where you’re going! I mean really you don’t see me right in front of you?! Get the hell off of my dress, do yourself a favor and go throw yourself into traffic! The world would be a much better place without clumsy fucks like you walking around aimlessly!” Kim smiled and said “I’m so sorry honey I was lost in thought. I sincerely apologize.” The woman in the dress stomped heavily across the street ignoring her, flashing the finger until she reached the other side.

How many people do you know that go through life with a smile? Are you one of those people or do you complain about everything? The smile pockets a rattling controversy. They are people’s way of deferring attention to their emotional state but they can also be genuine. This is the reason why it is so important to ask someone how they are feeling. Just because you see a smile does not necessarily mean everything is okay in that person’s life. I’m sure Kim’s coworkers would have appreciated this post before they found out that as soon as she reached her apartment, she took off her clothes, tied her bed sheet into a noose, and hung herself from her studio balcony. To everyone she seemed so happy and her life was envied but no one knew the pain she went through in her heart and mind because our thoughts are our thoughts unless we share them. Try to flash a genuine smile at any random person, forgive someone who has hurt you, and practice self control, because the next person you freak out on may just be another Kim.

About Society of Free Thinkers

I critically think constantly about many topics. I strongly believe that in society we need to implement equality, freedom, & encourage free thinking in our educational institutions, in order to produce qualified and emotionally stable professionals in the work force. Creativity is what unearths innovations. Nurturing our young, and someone else's, will end violence, and foster emotional stability in children early. I want the world in it's entirety, to be a better place to live in and believe that every society needs a reality check... Something is obviously wrong and in need of change, from the people down to the politics. "Society of Free Thinkers" is a place to educate yourselves freely and to voice your opinion on important worldly topics, in a judgment free area.

    • Thank you Jesus. I dislike sounding so horridly depressing but the reality of the situation is that people are killing themselves left and right because of the words others speak to them. People are self absorbed and fail to realize that their words might just be the icing on someone’s cake.
